How is this information collected and analyzed? The base canvas uses a series of scripts to normalize data of varying type and scale from a vast range of sources to allow quick yet highly detailed analysis. The base canvas pulls data from the following general categories: residential fields, employment fields, parcel area fields, building area fields, irrigated fields, roadway intersection density, built form type, and land development categories. For each census block, UrbanFootprint generates raw counts of population, dwelling units, jobs, and other demographic fields using a combination of census data sources. UrbanFootprint also supports base canvas creation at the parcel scale from user-supplied data.
