UrbanFootprint at the 2018 National Planning Conference

What a whirlwind! It’s hard to believe NPC18 has already come and gone. Our team had a blast connecting with our fellow planners and designers last week in New Orleans. Thanks to all who stopped by the booth to say hello.

We were honored to share the strides our team has made in the Spring Release of UrbanFootprint, our exciting partnership with the State of California, and how the platform has been a powerful solution for clients like Raimi + Associates.

Matt Raimi presents with UrbanFootprint at the 2018 National Planning Conference.
We’d like to send a big thank you to UrbanFootprint customer Matt Raimi for joining us on the NPC18 TechZone stage.

But perhaps what was most exciting about this year’s National Planning Conference was the chance to revisit New Orleans. Our work in the Louisiana Speaks project and post-Katrina recovery several years ago gave us an intimate look at the heart of this beautiful city and I cannot think of a better backdrop for planners to gather and discuss some of our most pressing challenges in building sustainable, resilient communities.

French Quarter, New Orleans

While preparing for our TechZone presentation, I was reminded of the critical role data-driven scenario planning and community workshops played in developing a strategic recovery plan for New Orleans. Louisiana Speaks featured the most extensive public outreach process ever undertaken for a planning project in the United States. The project also used extensive data modeling to build and test the effects of different land use, transportation, storm protection, and restoration scenarios for a variety of safety, livability, and transportation indicators, which in many ways, provided the groundwork and inspiration for developing UrbanFootprint.

As we move to tackle some of the biggest pain points in community planning today, it’s our hope that UrbanFootprint makes it easier for planners to get the data they need to foster more informed policy conversations and clearly convey the impacts of alternative future land use plans.
